A 2020 Ford Interceptor that the Tyrone Borough Police Department no longer uses is heading to the Tyrone Area School District. At its March 9 meeting, Council voted to donate the vehicle to the district, which had expressed interest in it and is aware of its known mechanical problems.
Adopted unanimously
In favor: all members present — Robert Dollar, Sarah Hunter, Debbie Kann, Ken Patterson, Bridgette Gill, Tammy Wills, William Wiser.
Because the Borough and the school district are both government entities, the transfer can be made directly without the competitive bidding the Borough normally uses to dispose of surplus equipment. In the past, retired police cars have been sold through that bidding process for roughly $1,200 to $2,000. Council chose instead to pass this cruiser along to a fellow public body in the community.
On record: this action is part of the public meeting record at the Borough Office, 1100 Logan Avenue. Learn more about the department on the Borough’s Police page.
