At its May 11, 2026 meeting, Council awarded the supply of polyelectrolyte — a polymer used at the Tyrone wastewater treatment plant — to the low bidder, Polydyne, Inc., at $2.25 per pound. The Borough received two bids: Polydyne at $2.25 per pound and Pollu-Tech at $2.48 per pound. The new price is below the $2.709 per pound the Borough had been paying.
Adopted unanimously
In favor: all members present — Robert Dollar, Sarah Hunter, Debbie Kann, Ken Patterson, Bridgette Gill, William Wiser, Mayor John Harlow. Absent: Tammy Wills.
Polymer is a treatment chemical that helps the plant separate solids from water during the cleaning process, so the wastewater can be treated to the standards the state requires before it is discharged. Buying it through competitive bids lets the Borough lock in a lower per-pound price. You can read more about the Borough’s wastewater operations on the Sewer Department page.
