Adopted by Borough Council · March 14, 2022
The Borough is supporting a county-wide economic development effort. On March 14, Council adopted Resolution 2022-03, expressing Tyrone’s backing for the Five-Year Strategy of a proposed Enterprise Zone advanced by ABCD Corporation, the economic-development arm working on behalf of Blair County. The resolution states that the strategy aligns with the Borough’s own economic goals and objectives.

An Enterprise Zone is a state-recognized designation, administered through the PA Department of Community & Economic Development, that targets areas where reinvestment is most needed. Once a zone is certified, the communities inside it become eligible for competitive grants, low-interest financing for business expansion, and other tools intended to retain jobs and attract new investment. The designation does not change local taxes or zoning on its own; it is a planning and funding framework that municipalities opt into together.
State certification of an Enterprise Zone rests on a multi-year strategic plan that lays out the area’s economic conditions, priorities, and the projects the partners intend to pursue. By passing a resolution of support, Tyrone signals to the Commonwealth that it is a willing participant — a step that strengthens the county-wide application and positions the Borough to share in the resources the zone may unlock over the coming years.
The measure is a statement of support rather than a binding commitment of Borough funds. ABCD Corporation continues to lead the application on behalf of the participating municipalities; Council’s action adds Tyrone’s name to that effort.
