Fire · April 14, 2025
The Neptune Volunteer Fire Company will receive $60,000 from the Borough toward the purchase of a new fire truck, after Council approved the allocation at its April 14, 2025 meeting. The amount matches the figure Neptune requested, and it makes good on a commitment Council made nearly a year earlier.
Adopted unanimously

In June 2024, Council agreed to help Neptune with the cost of replacing fire apparatus. That earlier action set the expectation that Borough funds would be available; the April vote settled the specific amount, $60,000, after the company came back with its request. Modern fire apparatus — pumpers, tankers and aerial trucks — routinely cost several hundred thousand to well over a million dollars and are built to last decades, so the purchase is the kind of major, infrequent expense that volunteer companies typically plan for years in advance and fund from a mix of their own reserves, fundraising, grants and municipal support.
Tyrone’s fire protection is provided by volunteer companies, and the equipment they operate serves residents across the community. A reliable front-line truck is the backbone of any company’s response — it carries the pump, water, hose and tools crews depend on when minutes count. By sharing in the cost of a new apparatus, the Borough helps keep that equipment current without asking the volunteers to shoulder the full price alone. Fire service in Tyrone is governed locally under Chapter 20, Fire Department of the Borough Code.
On record: the $60,000 allocation is part of the public meeting record at the Borough Office, 1100 Logan Avenue. Borough fire protection is established under Chapter 20, Fire Department of the Tyrone Borough Code, online at ecode360.com/TY1357.
