Borough Council · June 9, 2025
Tyrone residents may soon be able to watch Borough Council meetings as they happen. At its June 9 meeting, Council authorized spending up to $15,000 to purchase equipment for a live stream system, opening the door to broadcasting its monthly sessions for anyone who cannot attend in person.
Adopted unanimously
In favor: all members present — Robert Dollar, Sarah Hunter, Rob Poust, David Snyder, Tammy Wills, William Wiser. Absent: Ken Patterson, Mayor Latchford.
The proposal came from Councilmember David Snyder, who asked Council’s permission to pursue the system and set $15,000 as a ceiling on what the Borough would spend on equipment. He suggested starting with a single camera rather than a larger multi-camera setup, keeping the initial cost down while the Borough tests how the system works in practice.
The live stream item was not listed on the published agenda. Following the Borough’s standard practice, Council called for public comment on the matter before acting; none was offered. Council then approved the expenditure. Because the figure is a not-to-exceed amount, it caps the Borough’s spending on equipment rather than committing the full $15,000.
A live stream would give residents a way to follow Council’s deliberations without traveling to the Borough Office at 1100 Logan Avenue on the second Monday of each month. In their discussion, members raised the possibility of posting the video through the Borough website and adding closed captioning, which would make the meetings easier to follow for residents who are deaf or hard of hearing and useful for anyone reviewing what was said. Those details, along with the specific equipment to be purchased, would be worked out as the project moves ahead.
Council’s agendas and approved minutes remain the official written record of its actions and are posted on the Borough website. Residents can learn more about how Council is organized and how it conducts business under Home Rule Charter, Article III (Council) of the Tyrone Borough Code.
On record: this authorization is part of the public meeting record at the Borough Office, 1100 Logan Avenue, and is reflected in the June 9, 2025 Council minutes.
