Adopted by Borough Council · November 13, 2023
The upper bridge at Reservoir Park has been found in disrepair and closed to traffic, and Council is now pursuing state funding to fix it. On November 13, Council adopted Resolution 2023-11, authorizing the Borough to apply for a $297,184 grant through the Local Share Account program to pay for the repair. Lehman Engineers will prepare and submit the application on the Borough’s behalf.

The Local Share Account is a state grant program funded by gaming revenue and administered through the Local Share Account (gaming-revenue) grant program at the Department of Community & Economic Development. Municipalities apply for specific projects, and awards are competitive — submitting an application is a request, not a guarantee of funding. The application carries a $100 fee, and if the project’s final cost runs higher than the grant, the Borough is responsible for covering the difference.
The grant would fund the structural repair work needed to reopen the bridge to traffic. The cost is lowered somewhat by a donation already in hand: Superior Lumber has donated the bridge decking, the surface that vehicles and pedestrians cross. Engaging Lehman Engineers to handle the application reflects the technical detail these grant submissions require, from cost estimates to the engineering scope of the repair.
Applying for the grant is a first step. If the award comes through, the Borough would move ahead with the repair and the work of reopening a closed crossing at one of Tyrone’s parks.
