Adopted by Borough Council · September 8, 2025
Tyrone has a new top administrator. At its September 8 meeting, Borough Council adopted Ordinance No. 1489 appointing Kimberly Gurekovich as Interim Borough Manager, placing her in charge of the Borough’s day-to-day operations while Council moves forward.
Adopted unanimously
In favor: all members present — Robert Dollar, Ken Patterson, David Snyder, Tammy Wills, William Wiser. Absent: Sarah Hunter, Rob Poust.
As a Home Rule community, Tyrone is run day to day by a professional manager who answers to the elected Council. The manager is the Borough’s chief administrative officer: overseeing the departments and staff, carrying out the policies and budget Council sets, and handling the routine business of running the Borough — from personnel and purchasing to coordinating services such as police, water, sewer, and the highway department. The structure of that office, and the powers and duties that come with it, are set out in Chapter 3, Administration of Government of the Tyrone Borough Code.
An interim appointment fills the role on a temporary basis, keeping Borough business moving without interruption while the position is held open or a permanent search is underway. Council’s vote gives Gurekovich the authority to act in that capacity now.
The appointment was made by ordinance — a formal, recorded action rather than a simple motion — and it carried with the unanimous support of every member present. Two of the seven Council members, Sarah Hunter and Rob Poust, were absent for the vote; Mayor Latchford, who serves as President of Council, presided.
Residents who need to reach the Borough Manager’s office can find contact information and hours on the Borough’s administration page, or call the Borough Office at (814) 684-1330. The office is located at 1100 Logan Avenue.
