Water Service Line Inventory

A “service line” is the pipe that carries water from the Borough’s main in the street to your building. Federal rules require every water system to identify what each service line is made of and make it searchable by address. Look up yours below.

Lead & Copper Rule

What the Inventory Shows

Under the U.S. EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions, the Tyrone Water Authority reviewed records and field-verified pipes to classify the material on both sides of every service line — the Borough-owned portion (main to the curb) and the customer-owned portion (curb into the building). The good news: the system is overwhelmingly non-lead. Here is where things stand across all 2,266 connections.

Understanding your result

What the Classifications Mean

Non-Lead

The line is a non-lead material such as copper or plastic. No lead-related action is needed.

Unknown

Records weren’t conclusive, so the material is being verified. As a precaution, treat it like a possible lead line until confirmed.

Lead

At least one portion is lead. The Borough prioritizes these for replacement and will contact affected property owners.

Galvanized Requiring Replacement

Galvanized pipe that was or may have been downstream of lead. It is treated like a lead line and slated for replacement.

If Your Line Is Lead, Galvanized, or Unknown

  • Run cold water for 30–120 seconds before drinking or cooking if a tap hasn’t been used for several hours.
  • Use cold water for drinking, cooking, and making baby formula — hot water releases more lead.
  • Clean faucet aerators regularly to clear any trapped particles.
  • Consider a filter certified to NSF/ANSI 53 for lead reduction.
  • Contact the Water Department about the Borough’s service line replacement program.
