During the summer months, the smell of picnic foods float through the air at Reservoir Park, as families fill the part with laughter, picnic baskets brimming with goodies and making memories. Reservoir Park is one of Tyrone’s most beautiful landmarks. The 33 acre tract of land, on which the park was built, was donated by one of Tyrone’s most outstanding citizens, A. A. Stevens. (sometimes referred to as Steven’s Park) The beauty of the land and trees is preserved the way God created them.
From the 1930’s to the 1960’s, two dances a week were held for young people in a large wooden pavilion where today’s Amphitheater sits. Today, the Amphitheater is home to many entertainers during the summer months, compliments of Tyrone Borough Council and donations from attendees.
On or near January 20th of every year, you can drive by the Municipal Building, as early as 1:30AM, and see people waiting in line to reserve a pavilion. Reservations are taken on a first come first serve basis. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, tables, reserved months in advance, are filled with family reunions, picnics, birthday parties, and even weddings.
The upper end of Reservoir Park closes after Labor Day, however, the lower end of the park will remain open until the end of September or October, weather pending. During this time, no reservations are taken and electricity is available only if park guards are available. The lower end restrooms are open until the end of September.
Reservoir Park is maintained by Tyrone Borough and in 2002, a community build project took place to replace much needed playground equipment. Picnic pavilions also line the lane through the park. Reservoir Park has been a historical part of Tyrone. In 2009, Pavilion No. 1 was totally rebuilt with the help of a grant from DCNR. The pavilion is now handicap accessible with updated lighting, storage facility and barbecue pit.
The physical address for Reservoir Park is 1046 Janesville Pike, Tyrone, PA 16686.

The Borough Swimming Pool was built in the 1950’s. Since 2005, the Borough has added handicap accessibility equipment, including portable steps, an electric lift chair and ADA improvements to the bath house, two water slides, lounge chairs, beach umbrellas, pool liner and a baby pool with water features. The Borough also has a snack bar which this year will include hot dogs, nachos, pretzels, candy and other various snacks.
